Today, Google is the best search engine in the online world. It was all begin in 1995 where Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford. At that time, Larry, 24 years old who was graduated from University Michigan and Sergey was assigned to show him around.
Sergey was 23. It is said that both of them disagreed about most everything at their first meeting. In 1996, Larry and Sergey began to work together building a search engine called BackRub which operated on the server of Stanford which eventually took up too much university bandwidth.
The word “Google” originally came from “googol’. Googol is a mathematical term for the number represented by the numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros.
Why did they use this term? The mission of this project was to organize the infinite information on the net. Finally on August 1998, Andy Bechtolsheim, the Sun co-founder wrote a check for $100,000 for a company called Google Inc, which did not exist.
Their first office was at the Susan Wojcicki’s garage. The first employee the hire was Craig Silverstein.
February 2009, they expand the company and move to 165 University Avenue in Palo Alto with 8 employees. They hired their first non-engineering employee, Omid Kordestani. 2 months later, Google announced their first press release.
It was a $25 Million round from Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins, John Doerr and Michael Moritz. Moritz described “Googlers” as the people who use Google.
In May 2000, Google released their 10 language version, French, German, Italian, Swedish, Finnish, Spanish, Portuhuese, Dutch, Norwegian and Danish. 4 months later, 5 more language launched.
Google adword was launched in October with 350 customers.
On April 23rd, 2003 Google adsense was launched. Adsense enable publishers large to small to get access to the internet traffic.
By Novermber 2004, the index of Google web pages reached 8 billion. May 23rd 2008, Google was translated to 23 Languages.
